Khartoum - General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, President of the Transitional Sovereign Council, praised the role of the United Nations Development Program in the country.
His Excellency, assured Achim Schneider, Executive Director of the United Nations Development Program, the support of the Government of Sudan of the activities of the program in the areas of development and humanitarian aid and work to enhance partnership with Sudan in the future.
Mr. Schneider stressed in a press statement after the meeting, the interest of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and its organizations in the issue of development in Sudan, and the readiness of the program to build a partnership with the government of Sudan in a number of areas of development, adding that the international community is willing to provide assistance to the transitional government by raising the level of cooperation and support provided for Sudan. He explained that his current visit comes on the background of five decades of partnership in development operations.
Schneider announced that the program will work during the coming period to support the transitional government institutions through capacity-building programs as well as providing the necessary support to the process of reforming the rural economy and increasing the volume of humanitarian assistance to the displaced who depend mainly on them in conflict areas.
